Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima (b. September 22, 1976), simply known as Ronaldo, is a Brazilian professional footballer. He holds dual citizenship with Spain. He plays as a forward for Brazil and the Spanish club Real Madrid. He has been nicknamed Il Fenômeno ("The Phenomenon"). Ronaldo's speed, dribbling ability and scoring instincts have made him widely regarded as one of the best players in the history of football and perhaps the best striker of all time.
He has enjoyed success at the international level, winning the 1994 and 2002 World Cups with the Brazilian national team. Ronaldo has also set a record of three FIFA World Player of the Year awards (1996, 1997 and 2002), since equalled by his Real Madrid team mate, Zinedine Zidane. He has been plagued by injuries through his career. He will also play for Brazil in the World Cup 2006.
